Description
A French Provincial Louis XV style marriage armoire, also known as an armoire de mariage, crafted from a light-toned wood with a honey-colored wax finish. The cabinet features a prominent double-arched molded cornice with a central high-relief crest depicting two billing doves and a heart. The two doors are decorated with asymmetrical scrolling molded panels and carved floral motifs. The central stile and scalloped base apron also feature floral carvings. The armoire is supported by short cabriole legs ending in whorl feet. Hardware includes traditional long brass fiche hinges and ornate cast-metal escutcheons. The interior is divided into three vertical compartments by fixed wooden partitions and contains multiple shelves for storage. The back panel has two added oval cutouts for cable access.
Height: 88 inches
Width: 53 inches
Depth: 21 inches.
Condition report:
The item is in good overall condition. Visible wear includes an area of finish loss and abrasion on the lower left side of the scalloped apron. There are two non-original oval cutouts in the back panel for electronic wires. Minor surface scuffs, natural knots, and slight wood separation at joins are present, consistent with age and solid wood construction.
