Lot 45:
Description
This small two-drawer chest of drawers is designed in the Louis XV style with a bombe front and sides. The piece features a serpentine form and is decorated with all-over parquetry. The veneer consists of diamond-shaped panels of burl walnut bordered by lighter wood stringing. The chest includes a matching serpentine-fronted parquetry top and two full-width drawers. The drawers are fitted with ornate, cast-metal foliate pulls in an antiqued bronze-tone finish. The unit is raised on four splayed cabriole legs. Secondary woods used for the drawer interiors appear to be a knotted softwood. The unfinished wooden back of the chest bears the handwritten inventory number 285 in dark marker. No manufacturer labels or stamps are present.
Height: 29 inches
Width: 37.5 inches

Condition report:
The item is in generally good condition with signs of light use. Visible defects include minor surface scuffs and small nicks to the finish on the legs, particularly near the feet. There are small areas of wear and minor losses to the veneer along the lower edges of the drawer fronts and at the corners. Light surface scratches and a faint patina of wear are visible on the top surface and sides consistent with age. White plastic furniture glides have been added to the base of the feet.
