Lot 37:
Description
This circular center table is constructed from carved mahogany and features a striking inset stone top. The stone surface, which resembles a specimen marble or porphyry pattern, is bordered by a circular brass stringing inlay and a wide mahogany rim carved with a repeating foliate and shell motif. The table is supported by a central urn-form pedestal elaborately carved with classical motifs, including ram head masks at the shoulders, floral swags, and gadrooned detailing. This pedestal rests upon a substantial tri-form plinth base characterized by fluted recessed panels and central floral bosses. The table stands on three splayed legs with heavy foliate and scroll carving along the spines, terminating in brass lion-paw feet fitted with functional brass casters. No maker marks or labels are visible on the piece.
30.5 inches diameter x 31 inches height.
Condition report:
The table is in good condition with a rich finish to the mahogany. Carvings remain crisp and intact. The stone top shows no visible cracks or significant chips. There is minor age-appropriate wear to the wooden surfaces and a light patina on the brass hardware. Casters are present and functional.
