Description

A pair of watercolor and ink drawings on toned paper depicting Indonesian cultural themes. The first work portrays a dynamic figure in Balinese dance attire, featuring a traditional mask and elaborate costume elements, set against a wash background. The second work depicts a woman in a sarong and blouse carrying multiple stacked woven baskets filled with pink flowers or fruit, accompanied by a small child reaching toward the baskets. Both pieces are executed in an expressive, fluid style. The artworks are presented behind glass with black mats in matching narrow wooden frames. A label on the verso of one frame identifies a source in Indonesia, reading: N. V. LUWES / PERDAGANGAN – SERI – FOTO / RADIO DAN PIRINGAN HITAM / BANDUNG – DJAKARTA. No signatures are visible on the front of the works.

Width: 12.25 inches (per frame).

Condition report:

The paper exhibits significant overall toning and light cockling consistent with age and paper type. The backboards show prominent water staining and large tide marks, particularly on the right-hand piece, suggesting previous moisture exposure. The wooden frames show light surface wear and minor scuffing.
