Description

A set of Mid-Century Modern beverage service items produced by H.K. Oka in Indonesia. The collection consists of a tall coffee pot, a hot water or tea pot with a hinged lid and internal perforated strainer, a covered sugar bowl, a creamer, and a large oval serving tray. The pieces are crafted from hand-wrought Banka tin, characterized by a horizontally brushed surface. The forms are minimalist and tapered, featuring elongated spouts and sharp, angular handles accented with teak wood inserts. The lids are topped with slender, tapered conical finials. Undersides feature an incised script signature reading A. Johnson and several stamped marks including H.K. OKA, HAND-WROUGHT, MADE IN INDONESIA, and 1601. Some pieces are further marked THE BANKA TIN, WITH FORMULA 60, NON-TARNISH, and NON-BLACK.

Condition report:

Good vintage condition. Pewter surfaces exhibit light scratching, small dings, and scattered areas of oxidation or spotting consistent with age. One pot lid shows a brownish residue near the hinge area. Interiors contain mineral deposits and discoloration from previous use. Wooden handle inserts are intact with minor surface wear and some fading to the finish.
