Description
This is a Balinese openwork wood relief plaque, hand-carved from hardwood with a dark brown stain. The composition features two winged figures wearing ornate Balinese headdresses and jewelry, integrated with a large, undulating serpent or Naga. The figures and the serpent body are detailed with carved scales and stylized feather patterns. This type of decorative carving is characteristic of mid-20th-century Balinese craftsmanship. The reverse side shows natural variations in the wood grain and a uniform dark finish. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are present on the piece.
Dimensions: 11.5 inches H x 15.5 inches W.
Condition report:
The carving is in good overall condition. The delicate openwork and carved details are well-preserved. No cracks, chips, or structural repairs were observed. There is minor surface scuffing on the reverse side.
