Description

This vintage dome-top lunch box is attributed to the King-Seeley Thermos Company and features the characters and vehicles from the 1960s science fiction television series Lost in Space. The item is constructed of lithographed tin with a red plastic handle and metal hardware. The front of the lid displays the show title in yellow block letters over a rocky alien terrain, while the bottom section depicts the crew inside the Chariot vehicle. The reverse side features the Jupiter 2 spacecraft on the lid and a scene on the bottom depicting John, Will, and Penny Robinson being attacked by tentacled plants as the Robot B-9 stands nearby. One side panel depicts John Robinson using a jetpack above green-skinned aliens, and the opposite side panel shows the one-eyed Cyclops monster above two characters firing laser pistols. The lower edge of one side panel is marked Copyright 1967 SPACE PRODUCTIONS.

Condition report:

This item is in fair to good condition, showing moderate to heavy wear consistent with age and use. There is significant scratching and paint loss throughout the exterior, with the most notable wear found on the yellow bottom panel. Heavy oxidation and surface rust are present on the metal latches, hinge, and handle mounting hardware. The lithographed graphics remain mostly legible but show areas of pitting and surface rust. The interior shows scattered rust, oxidation, and general soiling. This item is missing its original interior thermos and the metal wire thermos holder.
