Description
A three-drawer bachelor chest or small commode in the Dutch Baroque revival style. The chest features a bombe form with swelled sides and a serpentine front. The top surface is finished with a deep scalloped edge. It is constructed with mahogany primary surfaces and sits on four large bulbous turned bun feet. The back is a light-colored secondary wood panel secured with modern screws, consistent with mid-to-late 20th-century manufacture. Each of the three drawers is fitted with two antiqued brass batwing-style bail handles and a central decorative brass keyhole escutcheon.
31.5 inches high, 36 inches wide, 21.5 inches deep.
Condition report:
The chest is in good overall condition with surface wear consistent with age and domestic use. The top surface displays several scattered scratches, small dings, and minor finish impressions. There are minor scuffs and small nicks along the sharp edges of the scalloped top and drawer dividers. The bulbous turnings of the feet show visible scuffing, minor finish loss, and small indentations. The back panel shows minor surface marks and light oxidation.
