Description
This large-scale oil on canvas depicts a vibrant Impressionist beach scene featuring figures in late nineteenth-century attire. The composition focuses on several women gathered on a shoreline, with one figure notably holding a bright red parasol. The background shows a calm blue sea dotted with distant sailboats under a light-filled sky. The work is executed with loose, expressive brushwork and areas of visible impasto, characteristic of the Impressionist style. It is signed J. Deveau in the lower right corner. The painting is presented in an ornate, multi-tiered gilded wood frame featuring a deep cove with fluted molding, beaded accents, a foliate outer border, and a linen liner. On the verso, the canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher, and the frame bears handwritten inventory numbers 42140 and 702.
