Lot 78:
Description
A large-scale stencil print by Inuit artist Lucy Qinnuayuak (1915-1982), titled Feathered Trio, dating to 1963. This work, produced at the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), is executed on heavy, textured, fibrous handmade washi paper. The composition depicts three stylized crested birds rendered in a palette of teal and mustard yellow. The lower right portion of the image contains vertical syllabic characters for the artist above the red igloo seal of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative. The print is hand-numbered in pencil 4/50 at the lower center and bears the artist signature in pencil at the bottom right. The artwork is professionally housed under glass in a black wooden frame with a wide ocher-colored mat that showcases the paper’s natural deckled edges. A yellow identification tag and tape measure indicate the framed dimensions.
Framed: 40 x 30 inches.
Condition report:
The print is in overall good condition with minor rippling and handling creases characteristic of the large, fibrous paper sheet. The matting shows some light toning. The black frame displays light surface wear, minor scuffs, and small chips to the edges. The verso is sealed with paper, which shows typical age-related wear and minor punctures.
