Description
This large pier mirror is designed in the Rococo Revival style and dates to the late 19th century. The frame is constructed from wood with molded composition ornaments and a gilded finish. It features an arched top surmounted by a foliate and shell-form crest. Delicate vines and floral sprays trail down the stiles, while the lower corners are anchored by scrolling acanthus leaves and grape clusters. The piece lacks any visible maker marks or signatures.
Dimensions: Approximately 80 to 84 inches in height.
Condition report:
The mirror glass displays heavy age-related oxidation, including prominent foxing, clouding, and significant areas of desilvering, particularly along the top and bottom sections. The frame shows characteristic wear for its age, including cracks and chips in the gesso ornamentation. Several delicate floral elements have losses. The gilded finish is worn in multiple areas, with the white base layer visible.
