Lot 46:
Description
This lot comprises two Egyptian copper decorative vessels: a fluted pitcher and a lidded ewer. The pitcher features a hammered lower body with vertical fluting and chased floral motifs around the neck. It is fitted with a cast metal handle attached with visible silver-toned solder. The base is stamped EGYPT. The lidded ewer features a circular, disc-shaped body decorated with radial chasing and an inset turquoise-colored scarab medallion. It includes a long, curved spout, a cast handle with a hinged conical lid, and a flared pedestal base. The upper surface of the handle is stamped HAND MADE IN EGYPT. Both pieces are characteristic of mid-20th-century Egyptian metalware produced for the souvenir or export market.
Pitcher height: 6 1/4 inches
Ewer height: 8 1/4 inches.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit a dark, aged patina with significant oxidation throughout. Visible silver-toned solder is present at the joints. Small patches of green verdigris are visible on the pitcher near the handle join and base. The base of the ewer is slightly misshapen and uneven.
