Description
This 12-inch lunar globe was manufactured by Rand McNally & Company, dated by a code in the cartouche to 1970. The globe is constructed of printed paper gores applied to a spherical core, resting upon an original clear three-legged plastic stand. The cartography features shaded relief depicting the lunar surface, identifying major craters, mountain ranges, and maria such as Mare Moscoviense, Mare Serenitatis, and Mare Tranquillitatis. Notably, the globe marks historical landing sites from the early Apollo program, specifically Tranquility Base (Apollo 11) and the landing site for Apollo 12. An equatorial scale is graduated in degrees with numerical notations at 15-degree intervals.

Condition report:
The globe exhibits age-appropriate wear. There is visible crazing and fine cracking to the paper surface, most notably along the gore seams. General yellowing and minor surface discoloration are present throughout the globe. The clear plastic stand is intact, showing light surface scratches and minor accumulated dust.
