Description
A collection of vintage hardcover volumes from the Oz series, featuring works by L. Frank Baum, Ruth Plumly Thompson, and John R. Neill. The titles included are Glinda of Oz, The Scalawagons of Oz, The Purple Prince of Oz, The Royal Book of Oz, Handy Mandy in Oz, Ojo in Oz, The Wishing Horse of Oz, and Speedy in Oz. All volumes are published by Reilly & Lee, as indicated on the spines. The books are bound in publisher’s cloth of various colors (red, tan, grey, and green) with large pictorial paper labels on the front covers, illustrated by John R. Neill. The spines feature black stamped titles, character vignettes, and the publisher’s imprint. The interior of at least one volume features a “This Book belongs to” page with a hand-colored bull illustration and an ink/crayon inscription reading THE NASH FAMILY and NASH. Several volumes contain illustrated endpapers and numerous black and white interior illustrations, some of which show evidence of amateur hand-coloring in crayon or ink.

Condition report:
The collection shows significant wear consistent with age and heavy use. Common issues across the volumes include fraying and loss of cloth at the heads and tails of the spines, bumped and rubbed corners, and edge wear to the boards. The pictorial paper labels show varying degrees of scuffing, staining, and paper loss; specifically, the label for Glinda of Oz has a prominent area of red staining or paper loss. The cloth bindings exhibit fading, spotting, and general soil. Internally, the pages are toned and yellowed with age, and several volumes contain amateur hand-coloring to the illustrations and ownership inscriptions. Dust jackets are not present.
