Description
This Chippendale style blanket chest, frequently termed a mule chest, features a mahogany veneered exterior over solid secondary wood construction. The interior of the main storage compartment is fully lined with aromatic red cedar planks. The design includes two lower drawers constructed with machine-cut dovetail joinery and oak-veneered bottoms. The chest is supported by ogee bracket feet. The front and side facades are decorated with polished brass batwing style bail handles, and a matching decorative escutcheon is centered on the front. The hinged lid is secured with three butt hinges and a modern metal safety stay. Construction details include wood plugs at the front corners. A handwritten tag is attached to the piece.

Condition report:
Excellent used condition. The exterior mahogany finish shows minor cosmetic wear, including light surface scuffs and small scratches primarily on the ogee bracket feet and edges consistent with age and household use. The interior cedar lining is well-preserved and clean. The lid stay, hinges, and drawer glides are in good functional order.
