Description
This carved stone sculpture depicts the head of a human figure or deity, rendered in a style consistent with Southeast Asian religious art, specifically originating from Indonesia (Java) or the Khmer Empire. The piece is sculpted from a coarse, porous volcanic stone, likely basalt or andesite, characterized by a granular texture and visible mineral inclusions. The iconography features a stylized face with elongated almond-shaped eyes under heavy lids, a prominent aquiline nose, and full, slightly parted lips. The figure wears an elaborate, high-relief headdress or mukuta, defined by tiered horizontal ridges and a central vertical element. The ears are represented by vertical rectangular forms. The carving utilizes deep, broad incisions to delineate the features and the architectural elements of the headwear. The base of the neck has been flattened to allow the sculpture to stand independently.

Condition report:
The sculpture exhibits significant surface weathering consistent with prolonged exposure or age. This includes rounding of the carved edges and a general loss of fine detail on the protruding features. Visible patches of white mineral deposits are present within the recessed areas of the carving. There are no apparent structural cracks, fractures, or evidence of modern repair. The underside of the flattened base is covered with an applied circular orange-brown felt pad.
