Description

This hand-thrown stoneware studio pottery jug or cruet features a bulbous ovoid body, a short-tapered neck with a flared rim, and a single applied loop handle. The shoulder exhibits a shallow thumb-pressed indentation. The piece is finished with a multi-colored glaze, likely ash or salt-fired, displaying a palette of pale gray, lavender-purple, and moss green, punctuated with dark brown iron spots and runs. Three horizontal incised lines encircle the middle of the body. Several artist stamps are present: a circular stamp containing a capital T on the neck; and three stamps at the base edge including an oval ET mark, a stylized double peak symbol, and an almond-shaped seed-pod mark. A small rectangular stamp with a capital T is also visible on the lower side wall. The unglazed base shows a light brown clay body with visible throwing rings.

Height: 5.5 inches.

Condition report:

The jug is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Minor kiln-related surface imperfections and grit around the base edge are characteristic of the firing process and not considered damage.
