Description
A rectangular jewelry or vanity box constructed from hand-carved tropical hardwood featuring deep relief decorative motifs. The lid is carved with a central peacock with a fanned tail amidst scrolling foliage, while the side panels continue the foliate scroll theme. The box utilizes a hinged lid design with two internal brass hinges and a simple lock mechanism. Inside, a removable wooden tray is divided into five compartments. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are present on the piece.

Condition report:
Fair. A significant vertical crack runs through the center of the carved lid. The box displays overall surface wear, including minor nicks, scratches, and dust accumulation consistent with age and use. No key is included for the lock mechanism.
