Description
A tall chest of drawers from the “Esperanto” collection by Drexel, executed in the Mid-Century Spanish Provincial or Mediterranean Revival style, circa 1960s. The piece is constructed of wood, likely solid wood or veneer, finished in a warm, medium reddish-brown tone with an intentionally distressed texture. The façade is organized into five vertical storage rows. The top two rows feature two visually distinct drawer front sections each, while the bottom three rows feature three narrower, recessed, fielded panel sections each, resulting in 13 total visually distinct drawer front sections. The hardware is antiqued brass or bronze-toned metal. The top four sections utilize diamond-shaped escutcheons with knob pulls. The lower nine sections are fitted with decorative backplates and bail or teardrop pulls. The form rests on a plinth base with bracket feet.
