24 x 38 x 19 An Italian Venetian Rococo armchair, circa 1750, constructed from carved wood with a polychrome ‘lacca’ finish. The frame is presently finished in a distressed olive-green paint with subtle gold or yellow highlights. The seat and heart-shaped backrest are upholstered in a vibrant orange/gold velvet or velour fabric, featuring a corded trim. The chair exhibits ornate scrollwork and pierced carving on the crest rail and apron, with cabriole-style legs. No discernible text or markings are visible.
Condition report:
The overall condition shows significant wear and loss to the painted finish, particularly on edges, carved elements, and joints. There is visible cracking in the wood structure at both arm-to-back connections. The upholstery exhibits minor soiling and wear consistent with age and use.
