Description
6 x 10.5 A vintage composite sculpture depicting a young girl, likely a child, wearing a bonnet with a perforated design. The figure is rendered in a naturalistic, sentimental style, shown resting her chin on her left hand while intently reading an open book. She is seated atop a stack of three books which form the base of the sculpture. The material appears to be plaster, chalkware, or a similar molded composite, finished with a creamy, off-white painted surface. The number “1431” is visible on the back of the top book forming the base.
Condition report:
The sculpture exhibits extensive surface crazing throughout the painted surface, consistent with age. There are numerous chips and losses to the paint and underlying material, particularly noticeable on the edges of the base books and the bonnet. Accumulated grime is present in the recesses, indicating significant age and wear. No apparent repairs or restorations.
