4 x 8 A polychrome sculptural bust by David Kaplan, dated 1969, from his ‘Fiddler’s People’ series, depicting a bearded man, likely a scholar or rabbi, intently reading an open book. The piece is rendered in an expressive, folk-art style from a composition material, such as plaster or resin, featuring a textured surface and painted in shades of brown, orange, and black. The pages of the open book display untranslated Hebrew script, consistent with a religious text or prayer book.
