Lot 307:
Description
6 x 9 A Japanese Hakata Doll depicting a young samurai child, made by Mitsuo. The ceramic figurine is dressed in traditional attire, featuring a black kimono over a light blue undergarment, a white top layer, and a green pleated *hakama*. The figure holds a slender spear with a metal tip in its right hand and a red circular disc bearing the gold-painted kanji character “寿” (*Kotobuki*, meaning “long life” or “longevity”) in its left. Hand-painted details include a traditional topknot hairstyle and a small square motif on the white garment. The reverse of the green *hakama* bears a vertical inscription translating to “Hakata Doll” and “Made by Mitsuo.” The underside of the figurine is covered with green felt, beneath which two stickers confirm “ENTIRELY HAND PAINTED” and “MADE IN JAPAN,” with one specifically identifying it as a “GENUINE HAKATA DOLL” from the “Hakata Doll Association.” The piece is presented on a separate dark stained wooden display stand with carved feet.
