Description

An oil painting by Charles Roka (Hungary/Norway, 1912-1999), depicting two young children, a boy in blue overalls and a girl in a red top, engaged in play within a grassy field. The artwork is executed with expressive brushstrokes and noticeable impasto, characteristic of an Impressionistic or Post-Impressionistic style. It is signed ‘Roka’ in the lower right corner of the canvas. The painting is housed in a carved, gilded wooden frame with a black inner liner. The reverse side reveals a wooden stretcher frame with various inscriptions including “2477”, “236”, “507/D x 7511 X 236”, and “C. Art Co.” or “G. Art Co.” on the stretcher bars, along with “C 2174 / GOAD” or “GOOD” handwritten on the canvas itself.

Condition report:

The painting is in good overall condition with a stable paint surface and vibrant colors. The frame exhibits minor surface wear and small losses to the gilding, consistent with age and handling. The stretcher shows expected signs of age.
