Description
A pair of architectural prints by John Mortlock, likely etchings or engravings, depicting Canterbury Cathedral, Kent, and St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. Each monochrome print showcases detailed line work and includes printed descriptive text below the image. The Canterbury Cathedral print is signed “John Mortlock” in ink and “J Mortlock 10” in the plate, while the St. Paul’s Cathedral print shows “J Mortlock 23” in the plate. Notably, the printed description below the Canterbury image inaccurately describes St. Paul’s Cathedral, mentioning Sir Christopher Wren and the Great Fire of London, while the St. Paul’s print includes a correct description. Both artworks are housed in matching gold-toned wooden frames with off-white matting and glass glazing. The reverse of the frames bears labels, including one from the Henderson-Wheeler Gallery, Atlanta, Georgia, and presentation inscriptions to “Susie Hall” from “St. Martin in the Fields Church, Atlanta, Georgia,” dated between 1978 and 1980, specifically December 12, 1979 for one.
