Incredible Lifetime Collection of Atlanta Resident: Part I
Lot 58:
Description
This large, Neoclassical-style lidded ceramic punch bowl, reminiscent of Jasperware, features a matte light blue ground with extensive white bas-relief decoration. The globular body displays intricate figural scenes of numerous individuals, often referred to as ‘gnomes’ or ‘party scenes’ in similar listings, alongside a classical well and a vessel on a pedestal, all framed by decorative bands. Two robust handles are fashioned as winged griffins or fantastic beasts, detailed in white relief, consistent with ‘sea dragon handles’ found in comparative listings. The domed lid is adorned with white bas-relief foliate motifs and surmounted by a figural finial depicting a rearing cat-like creature holding an object. The urn stands on a flared pedestal base with complementary relief work. The interior and the lid’s seating rim are finished in a contrasting cream-colored glaze. No manufacturer’s markings or other text are visible on the exterior or base.
